Access to MVI Audio Resources

People who cannot read print materials because of vision impairment or reading disability can use MVI audio resources. To apply for MVI services for yourself or someone else, complete the MVI Service Application form to access materials here on listen.wels.net.

Welcome to Listen Library!

This free, online library of Christian resources is for people who are blind, visually impaired, or have a reading disability. If you qualify for our services, you can listen to a book online or download a selection to enjoy at your leisure. You can use the catalog on this page to order audio books on a thumb drive or audio cassette.

Volunteers with the WELS Mission for the Visually Impaired (MVI) create these audio resources so that people who cannot read a book can still benefit from solid, faith-based materials that will encourage them and strengthen their walk with Christ.

“Is this legal?” you ask. “What about copyright law?” Under the Chaffee Amendment to Title 17 of the US Code (copyright law), MVI is permitted to create and distribute copyrighted materials at no cost to the visually or print impaired person. If you apply for MVI services you will be asked to provide proof that you qualify. Acceptable proof is a statement from the person’s pastor, doctor, teacher or state rehabilitation services that testifies to the vision or reading impairment.

MVI also provides books and magazines in Braille and large print for free to the blind and reading impaired. Find a catalog that includes braille and large print resources at wels.net/mvi.

Free Listening Device

The National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS) is a free braille and talking book library service for people with temporary or permanent low vision, blindness, or a physical or perceptual disability that prevents them from reading or holding the printed page. The NLS provides a free listening device for the blind and print disabled, called a “talking book” and the NLS talking book can be used for our online audio books or for playing Listen Library audio books sent to you on thumb drives.
